You come up with some logical reasons why Anya was a bit more accepted than Spike, particularly since they don't really see her in action early on in the series (well, except for the Wishverse Scoobies, and they're almost all dead anyway). I'm still not sure that I really buy that Xander was ever actually in love with Anya (but I am convinced she was in love with him), though he might have thought he could change her into someone he could love, but he certainly never has any fear of her, while Buffy does fear Spike, and that is a big difference.
